Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus internationally unlocked version model# SM-G9650

I am considering buying the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus internationally unlocked version model# SM-G9650. Will this phone work on Ting, and would I still have Wifi calling? At the moment I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with Wifi calling.

  • Hi Reno,

Looking at the specs for the G9650 version of the Samsung S9+ it does have the right frequencies to connect to our network but it wouldn't have the right software built into it to do the WiFi calling. If you are looking for the version that would be capable of WiFi calling it would be the T-Mobile branded version of the phone (SM-G965UZBATMB).

  • The S7 Edge that I am using right now, is carrier unlocked, and does have Wifi calling. What is the difference with an internationally unlocked phone, since both of them are not T-mobile branded?

  • The international unlocked version is going to have different software built into it. I recommend the T-mobile version of the phone over the carrier unlocked one because it is more compatible with the network since it using one that it is built for.

There is a global unlocked version of the Samsung S9+ (G965F) which should be able to pick up WiFi calling but because I can't say for sure I would suggest the T-mobile branded version if WiFi calling is a must for your next phone.
