Visual voicemail on Ting GSM with Pixel

I have a Google Pixel (first gen) on Ting GSM. I have been frustrated by the lack of VVM with the stock Android Phone App. From what I've searched and read, this seems to be an issue with T-Mobile's provisioning and some have seen it fixed on the Pixel 2 or 3. I recently broke the screen on my pixel 1 and had to go back to an old phone while it was repaired. To get back on, I had to get a new Ting GSM sim and reactivate the phone. When I did, this time I have gotten text messages from T-Mobile saying that there is this VVM app and an MVNO app available. I was wondering if anyone has gotten the MVNO app to work with a Google pixel on Ting? Message copied below.

Visual Voicemail Alert: A new version of My Visual Voicemail app is now available. To access your voicemail messages, you will need to download the latest version of the app. Download now: t-mo.co/VMMmvno

  • Hi James,

I moved this over to discussion for you in case someone has been able to get that MVNO app working. I haven't heard of anyone mentioning this before so there might be someone out there who has come across this.

As an alternative though, if you're looking for a visual voicemail app that you can use with your Ting number there is an app called YouMail. There's a free version of it for Android and it gives you 100 saved messages plus visual voicemail on a cloud-based service. If nothing comes of that other app I totally suggest checking it out.

  • This got fixed!  Not sure what actually did it, but it started working after the latest update to the Phone app (5/23/2019), so perhaps Google fixed the app or maybe the update occurred at the same time that T-Mobile fixed the provisioning.  Not sure, but very happy that VVM now works in this setup.

  • Hey! Glad to hear that the update has restored the VVM for you. It must have been something to do with the update so hopefully, now it will be stabilized going forward.
