Travel to Italy and Greece

I will be in Italy and Greece for two weeks with a CDMA phone which I will use very little.  Maybe a couple of minutes per day to just check in with family back in the United States.  Do I just turn on international roaming?  Is that all I need to do?  I don't think I will use it enough for a local SIM card.

  • Hey Timmy,

For LTE capable CDMA devices it would be as simple as enabling International roaming from your Ting account and changing the network mode on your phone to a GSM/Global setting once you arrive.

We have a comprehensive guide to cover your International coverage options with Ting that will help you get set up and you definitely want to check out our roaming rates as well so there are no surprises.

If you'd like you can also get those LTE capable CDMA phones unlocked for International SIM cards just in case you decide to pick up a local SIM but either way, have a great trip!

  • How do I change the network mode on an iPhone 7 to GSM/Global setting?  I have enabled international roaming from my Ting account and changed the mode on my android phone but not the iPhone.

  • Hey Timmy,

No need to toggle that on iPhone as it should find a connection, you just need to make sure that you head to Cellular Data options and enable Data Roaming from Settings if you want to use cellular data while roaming. If you're having trouble connecting you can also head to Settings > Cellular and tap Network Selection as disabling automatic will have the phone search for networks you can manually connect to.
