Ting $45 unlimited plan out there for testing?

We have 2 teens, one a heavy data user, the other beginning to use more. I have caps in place but is this testing of $45/mo still around?

  • Hi Cindy,

The Unlimited pilot program is closed. We're doing testing on it to see how it went and are going to go from there so there are no future plans for it at the moment.

What I could suggest in the meantime is taking a look at the free eBook we made on how to cut down on data while using your phone the same. It may help your teenagers do what they want to do on their phones while still saving on your phone bill. I'll link you to the eBook here.

  • I have two teens and I set up alerts to warn them when we were approaching the pre-deterimined data limit. I am not sure if there is enough granualarity in the alert mechanism to single out each phone's data useage specificially. When either or both went past the pre-determined allowance the teens paid the additional fees incurred. Unfortuantely there was also an issue if each teen could not see how much data they were using without logging into ting. And ting does not allow me to set up each of my teens with an ability to log into ting but not change the settings. This was a feature I suggested years ago with several folks supporting the desire for such a feature and it is still not implemented by ting. Good luck.

  • Hey Jeff,

There is the option of monitoring that usage from the phones themselves either with the pre-loaded software or a 3rd party app as that would keep a pretty accurate count. You could also customize the alerts/caps on the account to email them specifically to let them know when they hit specific thresholds.

As far as the option to view an account without changing settings it is interesting and would be great for accounts like yours but would require significant effort to program and ensure that it was secure. It could be something we implement in the future but for now, they are not any plans to make changes to the account structure.
