I’ve been wanting an Apple Watch w/ cellular for some time now, but have put it off due to Ting not supporting it. What I’m wondering is: is it worth it to buy one now with cellular and wait (and hope) until Ting starts to support Apple Watches, or do I save some cash now to spend more down the line to upgrade/switch carriers? I’d love to get some opinions about this. I can’t decide! Most of the info and posts on the site blog are from last year so I’d enjoy some fresh dialogue. Thanks!

Hi Alyssa,
We're in the same spot right now with eSIM (the main factor in Ting not being able to activate the Apple Watches) and it has a lot to do with working with our network partners who are going through some changes right now. It is still something that we are working towards and expect to have but without a definite time table, it's hard to say if getting the watch would be worth it right now.
There are features on the watch that rely on a connection so if you bought the watch and could do everything with it, it might feel like it's not worth it. What I might suggest is taking a look at the features and apps you would want to use on the watch and see how many of them need the cellular connection to work.
I bought the AW3 LTE knowing that Ting doesn't support it, but the ability to use LTE if and when that happens was too much for me to not do it. The price difference wasn't much, but I have my phone with me most of the time anyway. As long as the phone and watch are on the same WiFi connection, the ONLY time I miss having an LTE connection on my watch is when I go out for a run and have to bring my phone.
Would this allow Ting to do Apple Watch cellular if users are using Ting on GSM?

Hi Phil,
It hasn't been the technical side that hasn't allowed us to activate using eSIMs it's been an issue with our network partner allowing us to use them that has been stopping us from offering the option. We're still hopeful that in the future that we will be able to offer our customers a chance to use eSIMs for activations but right now we are still unable to.
It is still something that we want and continue to look into and when we have an update we'll be sure to let everyone know.
Thanks!
Any news on this front ?
I'd really would like to add apple watch.
No movement since our last update. The only MVNO that currently properly allows Apple Watch activation is xfinity mobile.
Looks like Wing Alpha is also offering Apple Watch support... any update on this?
Hi Richard,
We don't have any news on this front but we certainly would like to be able to offer eSIM activation. At this point its just not something that is feasible for us to offer but keep an eye on our Ting blog as any update on eSIM would most definitely be covered there.
