Just saw an offer on Facebook for new subscribers: Unlimited talk & text plus 20GB for $20/month for the rest of 2019.

How about throwing us long term subscribers a bone? Even a short term deal like this would be welcome.

  • Hey Rob,

If you're looking for something that all Ting customers can take advantage of that utilizes our recent CDMA network cost break, I'd recommend our Franklin mobile hotspots. $25 flat on your Ting account for $30: https://ting.com/shop/franklin-r850---30gb-mobile-hotspot_Black-refurbished-cdma

If you'd instead like me to investigate if 20for20 is something your entire Ting account might be eligible for, I encourage you to email me directly with your Ting email address at mitch@ting.com -- if you end up being a good fit for the promo, there's no reason we wouldn't see if we could do that for you.

However, I'd like to temper your expectations, as the 20for20 promo is not for everyone. It's strictly promotional, for CDMA phones ONLY (no GSM at all on your account) and goes back to regular Ting rates once it's over. For these reasons, very few existing Ting customers would save any money on the 20for20 promo versus how they have their accounts set up now. Probably a dozen existing Ting customers have already contacted me to get the gritty details on if they'd be a good fit, and only 2 have actually been. Everyone else had circumstances that made 20for20 not the best deal they could get for their usage.

The Franklin hotspot, on the other hand, is available to everyone and does not currently have a promotional end date. You could connect your existing Ting smartphones from either network to it and get effectively 30GB shared for not a lot of extra money when compared to standard Ting rates.

  • Hi Mitch,

First off, kudos for the quick and direct reply, as always. I'm all-CDMA right now so I might ping you separately on whether this is a good fit.

Second, while the Franklin hot spot is intriguing, it's not an apples to apples comparison for how someone might use the 20for20 promo. Whereas the hot spot is fine for extending data use at a good rate it is not an unlimited calling and text plan. Additionally, I would think that a certain number of current users might take advantage of higher data limits (relative to current charges) to experiment with more use of LTE data. I, for one, might not be afraid to stream a show or two, for example. This might Translate into different usage habits that become "sticky" after the promo ends. Or not. I don't know.

  • Pairing the hotspot with other solutions Ting users are already using (like Facetime Audio for calls, which does not count against minutes, for example) and Facebook Messenger does give you a little more freedom, but I do understand where you're coming from.

As to these users taking advantage of higher limits -- that's kind of the point!

  • I didn't know Ting had this hotspot solution.  This is a great alternative to heavier mobile data.

    Love it.

  • I am looking to use your Hotspot and services for my company.  We have a few events off-site and need to have internet access - do you know when your Franklin R850 Hotspot will be back in stock?  That is the only Hotspot device you provide correct?

    thanks

  • Hi Christina,

The Franklin R850 is the only hotspot we offer at the moment. We are expecting another shipment of hotspots soon and they should be restocked and available within the next two weeks. Make sure to keep an eye out on the shop page.

  • I'd love to sit down and chat about how to fire mine up. Bought one but it's not resurrected as seller described it.
