Can't text pictures after migrating from FreedomPop on S5

I just had to migrate to Ting from FreedomPop and now none of our phones can send pictures via text.  We are using Google Messages.  The error we get is "Message not sent:  service not activated on network".  I have checked the Ting dashboard and all the phones have all the appropriate settings turned on.  Is there something we are missing?  Thanks in advance.

  • Did you check your apn settings? Try setting them to default and restart your phone.

  • The APN reset option is greyed out sadly.

  • Do you have your freedom Pop SIM card? If so, put it back in and try resetting your apn settings. I had to do this when I switched an iPhone from Google fi to Ting. Spent days with tech support and nobody could figure it out.

  • The FreedomPop card is still in it.  Should I power it off take it out and put it back in?  Thanks for the super fast replies btw

  • Of course, after resetting, turn phone off, put Ting SIM card in then power on.

  • Hi Eric,

If the suggestions from Randy aren't fixing the issue, I do know that there is a known issue with MMS for FreedomPop customers coming over right now. It's not affecting everyone but we have an open ticket with our network partner and we should be hearing back from them sooner rather than later with an update.

When there is more information we'll be sure to come back here and update.

Thanks for your patience as our team works to get this fixed.

  • We were not offered or sent a Ting Sim.  We can text and call with no issue, it is just the picture issue.

  • I don't know if that will work. You can try it. APN settings are stored in a text file on the phone so taking the Sim card out might do it. Never tried that.

  • Ok, but it wouldn't make sense for it to work since you have the same SIM card.

  • I am a former FP customer and I'm having the same issue. I have no SIM card and this worked fine with FP.  Hopefully TING will find the answer soon.

  • I am also a former FP customer, came over with a FP phone, so no sim card, MMS worked fine whilst with FP. I hope this will be fixed soon by Ting and wonder how we will be told about the fix?

  • They said this week that Sprint was doing a fix for this issue on Saturday 7/20. Again it's only affecting the former freedompop Sprint customers that were forced over to Ting. I don't know when this fix is actually being done since it's 11:45 pm on 7/20 and still can't send MMS. And by the way, Freedompop will be starting there Sprint service back up in the next week or so.

  • As best we can tell, the news about FP or RP starting their own free Sprint service is nothing but rumors right now started in discussion forums. I've seen nothing official from either company on that front.

As to MMS, the fix is still being rolled out as it affected a larger number of former FreedomPop customers than we initially recognized. If you've already contacted us for help, we will follow up as soon as we have it completely 100% fixed.

  • Nothing was mentioned about FP or RP starting FREE Sprint service. What is stated if they will be starting Sprint service back up over the next week or so. That's not a RUMOR

  • RP already currently offers Sprint service, though. The "new" thing they would be launching would be tied exclusively to the FreedomPop brand wouldn't it?

  • In reading between the lines RP needed to vacate the FREE stuff and had FP discontinue the CDMA service. Once they migrate RP plans in with there's then they will start CDMA up again. Think it all will be marketed under RP.

  • Hey Howard,

Awesome! That feature does need to be active from the Ting account and those who have moved over from Freedom Pop can do so now, thanks for confirming it worked for you.

  • Thanks so much for the answer!  I had not downloaded the Ting app from the Google Play Store (didn't know that was required).  Once I did and followed the instructions above it solve the problem.  Thank you all for the prompt replies and solutions.  This has been a FAR CRY from the experience I had with FreedomPop. . . . which, was horrid from start to finish.

  • Just to let others know that the option for text pictures and video was not on the Ting App until today. I downloaded the app last week when first being migrated over and have constantly rechecked the app several times each day. They did an update today which also started the app calculating your total usage. At least we had 6 days off free service to trade off the MMS issues.
