Need bar phone recommendations / options

I already have one Ting line, I need to port over two more. The existing phones can't be used. Both phones will be bar phones, one for a senior with poor eyesight so it needs to be dirt simple. Both preferably 3G or better. I'm in the NYC area. Amazon is a plus but not required.

I already have had Nokia 3310's, managed to break both of them due to carelessness. They're aren't terrible but a bit over priced, also I can't use this for the senior. She is going to need a larger phone with big buttons and a easy to read simple display.

If you can provide a link that would be nice but more important is the exact model.

Thanks for any help

  • Hey Marshall,

It sounds like something along the lines of an Alcatel Go Flip would work out well, though I'm not sure what network you would be looking to use (GSM/CDMA)

For expert help finding a fit, I would definitely suggest you take advantage of our Ting Personal Shopper program.

  • I'm not fussy about GSM/CDMA but I suspect CDMA works better in my local area. The Go Flip would be doable for my mother but if I can get something simpler with bigger buttons for her that would be much better. She is using a AT&T flip phone now which has had somewhat poor signal strength here sometimes but is okay at this time. She prefers a flip phone I believe but the priority is large easy to use buttons and a simple display with large fonts.

For myself I would prefer a bar phone if possible. A year ago I used a BLU Zoey 2.4 GSM Dual SIM Z070 on Ting but that phone is broken and had a pretty poor user interface. It was okay but I'm hoping to find something different or possibly better.

Regarding the topic of the Ting Personal Shopper program, I'd like to make a suggestion. In the "What condition does the phone need to be in?" field, I suggest to add "any". I planned on using it but I was waiting to see how this thread went.

    Thank you for the help

  • You're very welcome! We get quite a few requests for simple phones that work with Ting and to be quite honest the selection seems to be less and less as time goes by. If you will be using GSM I definitely suggest that even with a flip phone you look for VoLTE compatibility and that would be offered via LTE Band 12/
    700MHz on our GSM network.

Our Personal shopper team can definitely do the leg work as far as finding something and in the meantime, you can feel free to post anything you're interested in here so we can help verify with you.

  • Hi I still need a bar phone. I bought a Blu Z5 GSM a few months ago but it turns out to be not compatible any longer.

    Will this one work? https://www.amazon.com/Ushining-Feature-Unlocked-Mobile-Carrier/dp/B07VRLBZ1M

Or at least give me the current tech criteria I need to base shopping on for the NYC area, I have two phones I need to replace. thank you.

  • Hi Marshall,

Looking at that phone it lacks VoLTE which is what you will need on our GSM network if you want to stay connected. When you are shopping around that should be the main piece of criteria that you should be concerned with, VoLTE.

We do have some flip phones for our CDMA network in our shop right now if you can't find anything when you are shopping in NYC or what I would also suggest is reaching out to our personal shopper team and they can take a look around online to see what is available for VoLTE compatible bar phones.

  • Thank you, I'm finding that Amazon is not a good source of sorting phones by specifications. From what little research I've done VoLTE appears to be a requirement for particular phone services. While I wish that my mother could do phone texting I know that is impossible, she just needs a large display and big buttons.

I'll try the Shopper Team and see if I can find a shoppers source that sorts by tech specs.

    Thanks again.
