LG Volt 2 installed SD card but still says storage low

I installed a 32 GB card and formatted it, turned the phone off and on but I'm still seeing, Storage low. Total space: 8GB. Available 293MB. Under SD card the Total space is 28.88GB, Available: 28.88GB Why isn't that 28GB available and how do I make it so?

  • I have done this in the past and noticed that widgets will break when the app is moved to the SD card, so keep that in mind.

  • The "storage low" is only talking about internal memory, and on th LG Volt 2, out of that total 8GB of space, there's about 3.2 GB where all your apps need to live. Everything else is the operating. It doesn't take long to fill that space up, especially because your photos and videos are the only things stored on your SD card.

Boost Mobile has a guide for Volt 2 users dealing with low memory:

By default, your LG Volt 2 saves all applications to internal memory. To free up internal memory, you can move some applications to the memory card.

    -----

Note: Be sure your memory card has enough space to handle the transfer. You can also consider switching to a higher capacity memory card.

    1. From the home screen, tap the All Apps icon.
    2. Scroll to and tap Settings.
    3. Scroll to and tap Apps.
    4. Scroll to and tap the preferred application.
    5. Tap Move to SD card, if available.

Note: Some applications must remain on internal memory. If an application on the memory card malfunctions, move them back to internal memory.

    ----

If that doesn't work, let us know!

  • Only had 3 or 4 apps that could be moved but no real change. When something asks if I want to update, I still get the message that there is not enough memory to update. Any way to delete a bunch of Google or other apps that came with the phone but I never use?

  • Not usually. You can Disable them in Settings > Apps, but that just replaces them with their factory versions. They'll take up less room, but they'll still take up room.

The simple fact of the matter is that the Volt 2 just doesn't have enough storage to do a whole lot other than what's already built-in. It's like taking a 4-door sedan to Ikea (and I speak from experience).

  • OK so the SD card I put in would only be useful if I had a bunch of apps? And those could work off the card?

  • Some apps won't move to the SD card at all, and some will lose some functionality, like William suggested.

I actually recommend as few apps as possible when you're dealing with the low amount of storage you have, especially because even the apps that can be moved to an SD card leave some traces of themselves on internal memory.

My honest recommendation is a new or new-to-you phone that has more storage capacity than 3GB, simply because these days, apps can be 300-400MB each, leaving you almost no room for anything else.
