Unlocked Phone, how to use GSM instead of CDMA

I am going to purchase a Motorola Moto G6 unlocked.  I really want to avoid using the Sprint network on Ting as I've had numerous bad connection areas where my GSM friends and family have had no connectivity issues.  I want to use the GSM network instead (T-Mobile?), but when I try to buy a nano SIM on Ting, it only lets me buy the CDMA one.

The Moto G6 has two sim slots, so ideally I'd like to put a GSM in and a CDMA one in, but it sounds like that would require two different phone numbers/bills.  What can I do?

  • Hi Adam,

Here is the link to our GSM SIM. I think that the system is prioritizing the CDMA option for the phone but if you ever need to order another GSM SIM you can always select "other" and "other" from the drop-down menu.

For dual SIM phones, you can have two SIMs in there but they would be different numbers and incur two sets of charges. You would only be able to use one at a time so I don't know if it would be worth it to have both of them in there if the CDMA service is not great in your area.

  • Thanks for the reply, how do I know what size the SIM is?  It does not specify whether its Nano or Micro or Standard.  I believe I need a Nano.

  • Oh, sorry, should have mentioned that our GSM SIM cards are multi-SIMs so they break down to whatever size that you need. They are kind of like those nesting dolls where there are smaller ones in the bigger one.

  • Oh great, thanks!  Can you verify that your GSM network uses T-Mobile as the carrier?
