iPhone 11 compatibility?

If I buy an unlocked iPhone 11 from Apple, will I be able to activate it on my Ting account?

  • Hi Justin,

An unlocked iPhone 11 from Apple will work on our network!

It looks like a really nice phone and I was actually debating about getting it myself. The iPhone Pro looks like it's going to have a few things that are nice but I don't think I would use.

  • Do you know when Ting will offer the 11 Pro for sale?

  • Hi Ericka,

At this point we can't provide a firm ETA but we will be working on having them ASAP and will definitely update folks via our blog.

  • Can I use the same Ting SIM card that is in my iPhone SE on the iPhone 11?

  • Hey Todd,

That depends on what network you're on with your SE.

If you're on GSM, then yes, the GSM X1 SIM card can be swapped right from the SE into the iPhone 11.

If you're on CDMA, no, the SIM card in your SE is not compatible with the iPhone 11.

For reference, the iPhone 11 uses SIMOLW416TQ, which we do not currently carry. However, if you purchase directly from Apple and request a Sprint SIM card from them, you can use that Sprint SIM card on Ting.

  • If you buy the unlocked 11 from Apple, they will provide a free compatible Sprint SIM card on demand.

  • Not very technical knowledgeable... So will an unlocked iPhone 11 from Apple (that I buy now) work when ting switches off of t-mobile and sprint once you switch to Verizon? Also does the phone work both CDMA and GSM... Ie. Users choice? Right now I am on a oneplus 3 that has not had visual voicemail for a year do to t-mobile through ting.

  • Yes, the unlocked iPhone 11 from Apple us a users-choice kind of phone that should work on all 4 networks and all their MVNOs.

  • Ok so if I get an unlocked Iphone 11 from apple I can activate it on Ting with either GSM (t-mobile) or CDMA (sprint) and then after Ting makes the switch to verizon (cdma), I will be able to use the same Iphone 11 with Ting on the new Verizon network...Correct? Couple of other questions:

    1. Is the Ting Iphone 11 unlocked?

    2. Can I transfer an Iphone 11 from Visible (Verizon's mvno) to Ting before the switch to Verizon?

    3. Do I need to get a specific SIM from Apple (cdma or gsm), pick anyone I want,  or can I just get those later from,, Ting. I do not intend to buy for a month or 2 would you have that ability by then?

    Thank you.

  • Hi Steve,

An unlocked iPhone 11 (North American version) would work on any of the big four networks here in the states so you could use it on any of the networks we offer or will offer. A phone purchased from Ting is unlocked just as if you had purchased it from the Apple store and you could transfer it from Visible to Ting before the third network is offered but it would be on one of the two networks that are available when you made the switch. When you do make the switch you would need a SIM card from us for the specific network option that you wanted to get and you can get a SIM at any point. They ship blank and you would activate it when you are ready to use the services.

  • Thank you for the information. I have been with Ting for years and other than the unfixable T-mobile visual voicemail issue (with oneplus 3T) things have been great. My current phone will not work on your new network once that change is made. I know there will be plenty of time to switch, but I am in need of new phones to. So I plan to get phones from Visible MVNO since they are offering a $200 (makes the $1,600 for 2 phones, much easier to handle) gift card as long as you stay with them for 2 or 3 months. I am happy to see this is possible from your response. We will be back!

  • You're welcome! The only thing I might also suggest looking into is to see if they have an unlocking policy for the phones, some times they will sneak them in even if you're buying the phone at full price.

  • Thanks for the info! I will check on that. So far, from what I can tell you purchase the phones at full price and pay for 2 months of service (I think up front) and then they send a code for $200 digital mastercard (per phone since they do not have family plans.) https://bestmvno.com/visible/visible-200-prepaid-mastercard-card-if-byop-or-buy/
