Call emergency services/911 if calls are disabled?

If I've disabled the "Can make/receive calls" setting for a device (because I solely use Google Voice), can I still place 911 calls?

I asked a Ting representative on a call recently and she answered that I could, but this is something I'd like to be doubly sure of, given its potential importance.

Thanks,

Frank

  • nothing illegal about testing your 911 connection.

  • To "test" 911 you're supposed to call your local non-emergency number first, coordinate a time, then call dial 911.  More overhead and than should be required, and it would be very useful for other people's reference to know the simple answer than having each and every person go through the same testing process.

  • short answer is yes. need a pcs or gprs antenna connection though. you can even dial 911 into an inactive rj15 phone jack if its on the comm grid.

  • You'll still be able to call 911 even if calling is disabled. You'll still be able to make a call to 911 even if the phone doesn't have a SIM card in it, all it needs is a tower to connect to.
