My account shows cellular usage, even if it is turned off on phone. Only way to stop is to do it at device level
My account shows data usage even when I have data turned off on the phone. It is happening to both my pixel 3xl and iPhone. I ported out my pixel 3 line to Google fi and. It does show data usage when I have data is turned off on the phone. It is a very small amount, but I think something is not right on how your system is reporting usage.

  • Hi Richard,

If you disable data from the Ting account via device settings that will prevent any usage. When it is disabled from the device instead that will still allow for a connection as data is not 100% blocked as it would be by disabling it from your account.

Its also worth noting that from time to time data is required for network refreshes so we give all mobile customers 20MB of grace in their first month and 1MB every month thereafter to cover that.

  • Why is there an on-the-phone toggle to turn off data if the toggle is ineffective?

  • Some services require a data connection, and can force a connection even with the mobile data toggle turned off.

  • Thanks, Mitch. What does "services" mean? Is this some phone OSs? Or some apps or app functions? A 911 call?

  • VoLTE and MMS come to mind. Both require a data connection.
