After six months of fine service, Ting suddenly has "no coverage" where I live!

It's nuts. I've had Ting phone service since January. Used my phone as a hotspot, made and received calls with no problems... As of today, suddenly my phone says "No Service." When I contact Ting customer support, (via computer chat and wifi calling) they just tell me that my zip code has no coverage. When I tell them that coverage here has been fine for the last six months until today, they come to a complete halt. They ask me if my device is updated. Yes. If I've reset it. Yes. Turned it on and off. Yes. Then they just do a corporate shrug and say, well, you're not getting our signal. We can't help you. We don't cover your zip code. So what, exactly, am I supposed to do? My zip is 98297. Is it possible that Ting has just reduced its coverage in order to save money, and isn't telling customers?

  • Hi Betsy,

I'm sorry to hear you're not getting any service and I apologize for any confusion as when I check the coverage maps (both our internal map and the public facing map run by the network operator) they show LTE coverage. When I check your usage statistics I also see the device shows to have connected to cellular data today so I do hope you have since had service return.

Generally in a situation like this we'd look to pinpoint the issue, we can do this by testing your Ting SIM card in another compatible device (to rule out device issues) or by having you attempt to connect in another area where a different cellular tower would be used (to rule out network issues/local outages). If either of these is possible for you I would ask that you please give it a try and reach out to support or reply here with the result so we can apply that to finding a solution for you.

You've done the brunt of the work by being up to date (you do need an iOS version of 14 or higher) and trying the restart and I'm really sorry our support couldn't be more of a help.

  • Nope. Just "No Service" all day long.

Your chat person said, "There is no coverage in that area." Your phone person sent me an email that says, "It looks like there is no coverage in your zip code."

I'm working right now and don't have time to phone in to Support and I do not have another device available to put the SIM card into. I will be traveling to another area on the 28th, but not before then. I guess I'll have to do without phone service between now and then. Urg.

  • All last night, I had regular two-bar LTE connectivity. Starting this morning, it's back to "No Service." This is NOT a problem with my device!

  • Another Ting agent on the phone says that my zip code has no coverage. But I have ordered a brand new iPhone, and Ting is sending me a new sim card. Hopefully that will get my Ting service back to what it was between January and late July.

  • I've been having similar issues since I upgraded the sim card on all the phones.  Now I get no cellular service frequently.  I get it at home where I didn't used to ever have a problem and I get it in a major city bigger than where I live.  Sometimes at home I have service, it seems to come and go.  What is going on?  I had Ting for years with no major problems and now the service is very spotty.

  • Hi Michelle,

I highly recommend you reach out to our live support for more as we do not have access to your Ting account to verify information, but are you on the same network you were before the switch?

Your device may need to have VoLTE enabled to get better service, and if you reach out to us we can enable domestic roaming as well since that is a free feature to improve your service. Please reach out to us for further assistance.

  • My problem ended up being fixed by getting a brand new phone and a brand new sim card from Ting to go with the new phone. I don't know for sure whether it was the new phone or the new sim card that did the trick. But Ting has worked great for me ever since.
