Kyocera DuraXV Extreme - supported?

Hi there,

I'm considering buying a Kyocera DuraXV Extreme made for Verizon.  Will it get provisioned on Ting?

Regards,
Serge.

  • Hi Serge,

I haven't seen anyone activate one of these on our networks but it should work with an account that uses a V1 SIM if it's an unlocked version of the phone. A lot of the listings I've seen online don't state if it's an unlocked version which is something that you would need to bring to Ting Mobile.

It may also work with our X3 SIMs but there is no indication that it is VoLTE compatible with our network partner. The specs for the phone have the right frequencies with bands 2,4, and 12 but the VoLTE is unknown.

I would be cautious if looking to purchase this phone as we would have no way to determine if it is compatible until it goes through our checker. If you are purchasing it from a third party I would suggest being aware of their return policy in case there are any issues.

  • Hi Bryce,

The ebay posting claims: Phone is Original Verizon and is also GSM Unlocked.  PCMag claims it's VoLTE.

I've ordered one and we'll try to activate it once it arrives.  There's only one way to find out. Let's roll the dice on this one.

    Regards,
    Serge.

  • That sounds promising! You'll have to let us know how it goes in case others are looking at this phone in the future.

  • Hi there, here's the promised follow-up.  The phone, Kyocera DuraXV Extreme made for Verizon, will activate and work flawlessly with both V1 and X3 SIMs.  The phone took my t-mobile-provisioned Ting SIM card and just worked.  Once the Verizon-provisioned Ting SIM card arrived, I had to call the support to transfer the service.  The V1 SIM activation was successful too (PLEASE BE AWARE that while the IMEI checker reports OK, the SELF-ACTIVATION of the V1 SIM in this phone produces an error if done on the website.  One MUST CALL support to have V1 SIM activated in this device. Luckily, support always answers the phone -- none of that IVR hell and 60-minute queues)

Overall, great phone, great service. Very happy.
