Since Ting's switch to TMobile, unable to get a signal in many more situations - frustrating

I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 phone which did okay when Ting was using the Sprint network, but since the switch to T-Mobile, I have many more "no signal" problems in the areas where I travel and stay.  I've finally had to buy a burner phone to use with Verizon since I can't be driving in the winter without a working and connected phone.  So frustrating.  My husband's Motorola Moto G Play phone works better than the Samsung at finding a signal, but often that disappears as well.  Is there anything that can be done to boost the signal on my Samsung?

  • I see from my account that my phone is on GSM network.  Is there any reason why I'm not on LTE since my phone supports it?

  • Hi Kristen,

Once your SIM is active you should be able to access LTE (assuming there is coverage where you are of course) once the Ting APN settings are entered into your phone If you've entered those and are still not seeing a connection please reach out to support directly for help troubleshooting.

  • I seem to be connected to T-Mobile US LTE, but my plan says GSM.  Maybe I need to update my plan?

  • Those indicators are admittedly kind of dated and were meant to help distinguish between the various Ting SIMs, GSM would indicate an X1 or X3 SIM which use a particular network you've mentioned you're seeing a connection to.
