What are private utilities?
Private utilities refer to the utility services not owned by public utility companies that run beyond the service meter. Public utilities are owned by water companies, electric companies, telecommunication providers, etc.
If you are a property owner, you likely have unmarked, underground private utility lines. Some examples of underground utilities that may be hidden on your property are:
- Invisible fences
- Sprinkler systems
- Electricity for exterior lighting, detached garage, etc.
- Gas or propane lines for BBQs or heated pools
- Septic lines
Doesn't Ting mark utilities?
Before any digging takes place, a utility marking service will mark out underground public utilities (water, gas, electric) with paint or locate flags in and near the public right-of-way. Utility service providers only own and have information about their public lines.
Please be advised
Homeowners are responsible for marking any additional lines on their property near the public right-of-way.
