If you’ve received an email confirming your upgrade to 2Gbps, congratulations! Your service has already been enhanced at no extra cost to you. You can verify this by testing your internet speed using a tool like www.speedtest.net or directly through your eero app if you’re renting an eero from Ting. For the most accurate results, connect your device directly to your router with an Ethernet cable.
If you’re using your own router, check that it’s compatible with 2Gbps speeds. If you're renting an eero router from us, your eero is fully compatible with 2Gbps speeds, so you can start enjoying faster internet immediately. However, it’s important to ensure that the ethernet cable is plugged into the 2.5Gbps port on the eero, rather than the 1Gbps port. Please see the Using the eero 2.5G Port for 2 Gigabit Speeds help article for step-by-step instructions.
Your upgrade to the 2Gbps network is automatic and completely free, and there will be no changes to your monthly bill (your bill will still state the 1Gbps plan and there will be no price change for the 2Gbps upgrade). The only way your bill would change is if you choose to enhance your experience by renting a new eero router with Ting. Rest assured, the upgrade itself comes at no additional cost to you!
The free upgrade to 2Gbps does not change the terms of your service. Your current agreement remains the same, with the added benefit of increased speed at no extra cost.
With the 2Gbps upgrade, you’ll enjoy lightning-fast download and upload speeds. Faster downloads mean your entire household can stream 4K movies, download large files in seconds, and game online smoothly - even with multiple devices connected. Meanwhile, faster uploads let you quickly send large files to the cloud, share high-quality video content, and enjoy crystal-clear HD video calls. It’s the ultimate boost for your digital life.
The upgrade is designed to improve your internet experience, providing faster speeds without compromising stability or reliability.
With a compatible device connected via a 2.5 Gbps ethernet port, you should be able to achieve close to the full 2 Gbps speed, depending on your device’s capabilities and the ethernet cable used.
With a Wi-Fi 6E router and a compatible device, you can expect real-world speeds of up to 1-1.5 Gbps for devices that support Wi-Fi 6E, under optimal conditions. Older devices using Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 5 will likely experience slower speeds, typically between 400 Mbps and 1 Gbps. As Wi-Fi 7 becomes available, it is expected to offer a significant speed boost for compatible devices.
If you’re currently renting a Whole Home Wi-Fi router from Ting, your router is already compatible with 2Gbps speeds. You may need to switch the cable to the 2.5 port on the back of the eero in order to access faster speeds. See our help article, Using the eero 2.5G Port for 2 Gigabit Speeds.
However, if you’re using your own router, you may need to upgrade it if it’s not capable of supporting 2Gbps. You can also choose to rent an eero router from Ting if your current router isn’t compatible.
To check compatibility, you can review your router’s specifications on the manufacturer’s website or in the user manual. Look for features like “multi-gig,” “2.5Gbps WAN port,” or “10Gbps” to determine if your router can handle 2Gbps speeds. You can learn more about whether your current router is 2 Gbps compatible in the Home 2 Gigabit Router Options help article.
If your current router isn’t compatible, you can either purchase a new router that supports 2Gbps or rent an eero router from Ting. Renting from Ting is a convenient option, as our Whole Home Wi-Fi option, the eero Pro 6E, has been tested and is guaranteed to work with the upgraded connection. First, ensure that both your router and your connected devices are compatible with 2Gbps speeds, and that you've connected your device directly using an ethernet cable.
If your devices are compatible and you’re still not seeing the expected speeds, try rebooting your router. If issues persist, contact our support team for assistance.
The upgrade will enhance your network’s overall performance, especially if your devices are compatible with 2Gbps speeds. However, older devices or those not designed to handle higher speeds might not fully benefit from the upgrade. You may need to check the compatibility of specific devices if you experience issues. For an optimized experience, consider renting an eero router from Ting, which ensures seamless connectivity and smooth performance, even with multiple devices connected.
To optimize your network, make sure you’re using a compatible router and a compatible device. Position your router centrally to improve Wi-Fi coverage, and consider upgrading any outdated devices that might not support higher speeds. Using wired connections where possible will also help you get the most out of the 2Gbps speed.
If you encounter any connectivity issues or notice slower speeds after the upgrade, we recommend restarting your router and testing your connection. If the problem persists, contact our support team for assistance. They can help diagnose the issue and provide solutions.
