What is a mobile hotspot?

A mobile hotspot turns your phone into a Wi-Fi source, sharing your data connection with other devices. It’s perfect for staying connected on the go, whether for work, play, or a quick internet fix. Just remember, it can use up data and battery faster than usual.

How to turn your phone into a mobile hotspot

iPhone

  1. On your phone, tap Settings
  2. Select Personal Hotspot.
  3. Tap Allow Others to Join
  4. Then, tap Wi-Fi Password to change the password for your shared network.
  5. Connect your devices using the hotspot name and password.

Android

  1. Open Settings on your phone.
  2. Tap Connections (or Network & Internet).
  3. Choose Mobile Hotspot and Tethering.
  4. Select Mobile Hotspot.
  5. Turn on the hotspot and tap Configure to set your password.
  6. Connect your devices using the network details.

Pixel

  1. On your device, Tap Settings.
  2. Select Network & internet.
  3. Tap Hotspot & tethering.
  4. Tap Wi-Fi hotspot, and tap the switch to turn it on.
  5. Once you’ve turned it on, you can tap Hotspot password to change it to something difficult enough to help keep unwelcome guests from joining.

Connecting to a hotspot

  1. Open your device’s Wi-Fi settings
  2. Select the hotspot’s name
  3. Enter the password
  4. That’s it—you’re online!

Tips for keeping your hotspot secure

  • Use a strong password with uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
  • Avoid sharing personal info like your name or birthdate in the password.
  • Turn off your hotspot when you’re done to save data and battery.
