Setting up a new phone is exciting, but it’s important to make sure your information is safe before you start. If possible, ensure your data is backed up on your old device. No backup? Don’t worry—automatic or older backups may still be available to restore.

Setting up a new iPhone

  1. Turn on your iPhone:
  2. Press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.
  3. Choose a setup option:
    • Quick Start (for iOS 11+): Bring your new and old Apple devices close together to securely transfer settings and preferences. Afterward, restore your data from iCloud.
    • Set Up Manually: If Quick Start isn’t an option, tap Set Up Without Another Device and follow the on-screen steps to configure your iPhone as new.

Moving from Android to iPhone

Apple makes it easy to transfer your data from an Android device with the Move to iOS app:

  1. Download the Move to iOS app on your Android phone.
  2. On your iPhone:
    • Follow the setup assistant.
    • On the Transfer Your Apps & Data screen, tap From Android.
  3. On your Android phone:
    • Turn on Wi-Fi.
    • Open the Move to iOS app and follow the instructions to securely transfer your data.

Setting up an Android

  1. Turn on your new device.
  2. Tap Start and connect to Wi-Fi when prompted.
  3. Choose a transfer option:
    • With a cable: Connect your old and new devices and follow the on-screen instructions.
    • Without a cable:
      1. Tap No cable?
      2. Select Ok.
      3. Select A backup from an Android phone to proceed.
      4. Follow the prompts to transfer your apps and data.

Moving from iPhone to Android

  1. Turn on your new device.
  2. Tap Start and connect to Wi-Fi.
  3. Choose a transfer option:
    • With a cable: Follow the on-screen instructions for a seamless transfer.
    • Without a cable:
      1. Tap No cable?
      2. Select Ok.
      3. Tap Using an iPhone device?
      4. Follow the prompts to transfer your data.

Don’t forget to turn off iMessage:

  1. On your iPhone, go to Settings.
  2. Tap Messages.
  3. Switch iMessage to Off to avoid missing text messages after the switch.

Transferring your photos from iPhone to Android

  1. Sign in with your Apple ID at privacy.apple.com.
  2. Select Request to transfer a copy of your data.
  3. Sign in with your Google Account to begin the process.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your request.

This process can take 3–7 days depending on the number of photos you’re transferring.
