Troubleshooting your voicemail

Voicemail problems can disrupt your ability to send or receive messages. Learn how to resolve these.

Common voicemail errors
  • Inbox is full: You see an error, but there are no messages.
  • Invalid voicemail or phone number: Errors occur when dialing into voicemail.
  • Language change: Your voicemail inbox is unexpectedly in another language.
Need to set up your voicemail?

Setup your basic voicemail. If you're interested in visual voicemail, setup your basic voicemail, then proceed to setting up your visual voicemail.

Voicemail notifications are not being received

1. Confirm data is enabled

Data is required for voicemail notifications to work.

2. Turn off Do Not Disturb

Ensure Do Not Disturb mode is toggled off.

3. Check notification settings

iPhone‍
  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Notifications.
  3. Select Phone.
  4. Check Badges.
  5. Look for the call/ voicemail badge and enable.
Android
  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Tap the 3-dot menu.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Tap Voicemail .
  5. Select Notifications.
  6. Enable them as needed.

4. Verify the correct voicemail number

Confirm your voicemail number is set to your Ting phone number.

iPhone
  1. Open your Phone app.
  2. On your dial pad, type 500586*your  phone number#‍
  3. Tap Call.
Android
  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Tap the 3-dot menu in the top-right corner and select Settings.
  3. Choose Voicemail.‍
  4. Select Setup. ‍
  5. Tap Voicemail Number.
  6. Enter your phone number as the voicemail number.
  7. Tap OK to save.

5. Reset network settings

‍⚠️ This will erase saved Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings.

iPhone
  1. Open your Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Tap Transfer or Reset.
  4. Choose Reset.
  5. Select Reset Network Settings.
Android‍
  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap System.
  3. Select Reset Options.
  4. Tap Reset Wi-Fi, Mobile and Bluetooth.
  5. Tap Reset Settings.

7. Check for software updates

iPhone
  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Tap Software Update.
Android
  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Select System.
  3. Tap System Update.

Voicemail indicator will not clear

1. Disable and re-enable notification settings

iPhone‍
  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Notifications.
  3. Select Phone.
  4. Check Badges.
  5. Look for the call/ voicemail badge and disable, then re-enable.
Android
  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Tap the 3-dot menu.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Tap Voicemail .
  5. Select Notifications.
  6. Disable, then re-enable the notifications.

2. Clear app cache

Android
  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Select Apps & notifications
  3. Select Phone.
  4. Tap Storage.
  5. Tap Clear Cache.

3. Reset network settings

‍⚠️ This will erase saved Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings.

iPhone
  1. Open your Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Tap Transfer or Reset.
  4. Choose Reset.
  5. Select Reset Network Settings.
Android‍
  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap System.
  3. Select Reset Options.
  4. Tap Reset Wi-Fi, Mobile and Bluetooth.
  5. Tap Reset Settings.

4. Check for software updates

iPhone
  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Tap Software Update.
Android
  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Select System.
  3. Tap System Update.

Changing your voicemail number

If the voicemail number didn't update automatically, it may need to be manually updated. Errors like “invalid mailbox” or missing notifications can occur if the voicemail number is incorrect.

How to update your voicemail number on Android

  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Tap the 3-dot menu in the top-right corner and select Settings.
  3. Choose Voicemail.
  4. Select Setup.
  5. Tap Voicemail Number.
  6. Enter your phone number as the voicemail number.
  7. Tap OK to save.

Visual voicemail troubleshooting

1. Verify data is enabled and working.

Check that data is enabled and working on your phone.

2. Call your voicemail inbox.

Call your voicemail inbox to make sure its setup and working.

3. Disable call forwarding

Disable all call forwarding as this may interfere. Learn how to disable call forwarding.

4. Check voicemail settings

  1. Log in to your Ting account.
  2. Go to Device settings.
  3. Select the phone number.
  4. Check the voicemail settings.
  5. Enable Visual Voicemail if needed.,

5. Reset network settings

iPhone
  1. Open your Settings.
  2. Select General.
