Backing up your phone ensures your important data is safe. Whether you’re preparing for a factory reset or just playing it smart, regular backups are a great habit. Once you are done backing up your device and completing your factory reset, you can restore your phone to download your backed up data.

Automatic backups on Android

Enable automatic backups to keep your Android regularly backed up without needing to think about it.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Google.
  3. Turn on Backup your device with Google One (if it’s your first time, follow the on-screen prompts).
  4. Choose the data you’d like to back up.
  5. Tap Back up now.

Manual Backups on Android

Need to back up your Android before a factory reset or making device changes? Do it manually:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Google > Backup.
  3. Tap Back up now.

Automatic backups on iPhone

iPhone makes it easy to set up automatic iCloud backups:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap your name at the top.
  3. Select iCloud > iCloud Backup.
  4. Ensure Back Up This Device is turned on

Manual backups on iPhone

Back up your iPhone manually if you’re about to reset or update it:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap your name.
  3. Select iCloud > iCloud Backup.
  4. Tap Back Up Now.

Tip: The date and time of your most recent backup appear under Back Up Now.
