Frequently Asked Questions

What is a number transfer?

A number transfer, also called a port, lets you bring your number from another carrier to Ting. We send the details you provide to your current carrier, and they review the transfer for accuracy. Once approved, they’ll start transferring your number to Ting. After the transfer is complete, your Ting SIM will be active!

What do I need to transfer my number to Ting?

You’ll need:

  • Your Ting SIM or an eSIM-compatible device
  • Your account number with your current carrier
  • Your transfer PIN
  • The name and address of the account holder with your current carrier

Providing accurate information ensures a smooth transition.

Where can I find my carrier transfer/porting information?

You can usually find this information in your current carrier’s online account or by contacting their support team. Check out our Carrier Porting Information guide for steps on locating the details for most carriers.

How long does a number transfer take?

Most transfers complete within 24 hours. Transfers involving VoIP or landline numbers typically take 5–7 days.

In some cases, incorrect transfer details can cause delays, so double-check your information before submitting.

I received an email about my transfer. What does it mean?

You may receive one of two emails:

  1. Confirmation email: This means your number transfer is complete, and your Ting SIM is active.
  2. Transfer update email: This email indicates your current carrier didn’t approve the request. You’ll need to update the transfer information. Follow our guide to update your port request to resolve this.

What should I do if I have a transfer lock with my current carrier?

Remove any transfer locks before submitting your request to avoid delays.

Should I cancel my current service before transferring to Ting?

No, your number must remain active for the transfer to work. If you cancel your current service, we won’t be able to transfer your number. To avoid paying for an extra billing cycle, start your transfer a few days before your current cycle ends to allow time for reviews if needed.

Will Ting cancel my service with my current carrier?

No, Ting doesn’t have the ability to cancel your old service. Once your number is active on Ting, we recommend contacting your carrier to confirm the cancellation of your account.

When do I activate my eSIM?

Once your port has been completed you'll get an email to complete the setup of your eSIM.

Having trouble completing your eSIM setup? Troubleshoot your activation.
