Canceling your Ting account

Last updated by Allan B

How do I cancel my Ting account?

Send in a help request, open a chat,  or give us a call at 1-855-846-4389 so we can help you out with that. If you get in touch via help request, please let us know the reason you're canceling; we use that information to help us improve the service.

If you are looking to move your Ting number to another provider be sure to do so before closing your Ting account.

If you only have Ting Mobile service:

  • Your account will close within 48 hours.
  • Your devices will be deactivated automatically within 48 hours.
  • Your account will still incur usage until the end of that 48 hours unless you deactivate those devices right away.
  • If you want to port out your numbers, make sure to do so before canceling your account to give yourself sufficient time.
  • Your last bill will be available within about a week of your cancellation and your credit or debit card will be billed for your usage and any outstanding charges.

Note: If you change your mind for any reason, it may be possible to reinstate your account within that 48-hour period. Give us a call at 1-855-846-4389 so we can check on that for you.

If you only have Ting Internet service:

  • Your account will close at the end of your billing cycle.
  • You will have Internet service until the end of your billing cycle.
  • You will receive no further bills after you cancel.

If you have both Ting Mobile and Internet services:

  • Your mobile devices will be deactivated automatically within 48 hours.
  • Your Internet service will continue until the end of your billing cycle.
  • Your account will close once your Internet service is deactivated.
  • You will receive your final bill with what remains of your mobile usage at the end of the billing cycle.

Can I cancel my Ting account with an outstanding balance?

While we cannot cancel an account with a balance owing, we can provide you with your port-out information to move your number to a different carrier. If you'd like to move your number elsewhere and have a balance owing, give us a call at  1-855-846-4847 and we'll provide you with your porting information.

Keep in mind, any canceled account with an outstanding balance will be sent to collections. When this happens, further changes to the account will not be possible until that balance is resolved.

Is there a way I can take my phone number with me? Or do I lose it when I cancel?

Hi Jeffrey! You'll want to port out your number before cancelling. Cancelling the account deactivates all numbers that are active.

To port out your number, the new carrier just needs to send us a port request with your port out information (which you can find in your Account Settings). This brings the number over.

The upside of this is that a Ting account is only active when there are active numbers present on it. If you port out all of your numbers, your account is effectively closed, and there's no more intervention or action required on your part.

I'm using Ting because I'm temporarily in the States, so I'll be cancelling before I go home. If I come back and want to start using Ting again, is there any way I can use the same phone number that I'm using now?

Hi Tara, if you cancel your account you wouldn't be able to use the same number when you come back. An option to keep the phone number would be to not cancel the account but to turn off the services instead. You would pay the $6 monthly line fee while we hold the number for you.

The debate would be how long you would be away and if you wanted to spend the $6 a month to keep the number. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask!

I was told my account was cancelled and paid in full. Then I received more emails about my account being suspended for non payment, that couldn’t be possible I canceled it. Then today they took another payment for my account THAT I CANCELED.

    Hey Adriah,

Because we're a postpaid service, there will be one final charge after you close your account for your final month of service. Prepaid services work differently, where there will be no final charges because you buy service before you receive it. Postpaid services collect money after you've been given the service.

I moved my number today. So my account canceled automatically right? And it dosen’t make any charge right?

  • Avatar
    Mitch Surprenant

If you ported your last phone number away from Ting, your account will be cancelled automatically within a few days. We don't do it instantly, just in case you ported by mistake or wanted to activate another phone.

Because we're a postpaid company, if you're leaving for good, you'll receive one final Ting bill that will be for $6 plus your usage and taxes. That should be the final bill you'll get from us.
