Get your internet up and running at a Ting-ready unit

Your internet is always onWhat to look for in your unitConnecting to the Wi-FiIf the router isn’t plugged inFAQ

Welcome home! Your new place comes with Ting fiber internet built in, so you can skip the wait, skip the install, and get online in minutes. Whether you're checking in with friends, working remotely or just kicking back with a streaming marathon, getting connected is simple.

Your internet is always on

Ting service is always on. In most cases, you don’t need to do anything except connect to the default Wi-Fi name and password printed on your router. You’ll usually find these on a sticker on the bottom or back of the device. Once you're connected, you’re online.

What to look for in your unit

You’ll find either a black ZyXEL router or a white eero router in your apartment, which are shown below.

Each setup should include:

  • The router itself
  • A power adapter
  • An Ethernet cable that connects it back to Ting’s equipment

It should be connected to Ting’s equipment—either through an Ethernet port in the wall or a small modem.

In most cases, the router will already be plugged into both power and Ethernet. If it's not—maybe it was unplugged or moved by the last tenant—click here for steps on plugging it in.

Connecting to the Wi-Fi

ZyXEL routers

  1. Flip the router over to find the default Wi-Fi name and password on the sticker.
  2. Some models broadcast a single network, others may show separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks.
  3. On your device, look for the network name and connect using the password on the sticker.
Don’t see the network?
  • Locate the recessed reset button on the back of the router.
  • Hold it down with a paperclip or pen for 10 seconds, then release.
  • Give the router 5 minutes to reset and reboot.
  • Once it’s done, the default Wi-Fi network should appear again—connect using the sticker info.

eero routers

eero routers don’t have sticker-default Wi-Fi info. You’ll need to reset and set it up via the eero app on a smartphone (iOS or Android):

  1. Make sure the eero is powered on.
  2. Locate the reset button on the bottom of the router.
  3. Hold it down for 20 seconds or until the LED on top flashes red.
  4. Release the button and wait until the LED flashes blue—this means it’s ready for setup.
  5. Download and open the eero app, then follow the setup steps (usually takes 5 minutes). You can follow the steps in our setting up an eero pro article.

If the router isn’t plugged in

If the router was unplugged, let’s get it connected. First, make sure you have:

  • The router
  • The power adapter
  • An Ethernet cable

If your unit has Ethernet wall ports

  • Look for the Ethernet port in the living room.
  • Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to that port and the other to the router.

For ZyXEL: plug the Ethernet cable into the blue port labeled WAN
For eero: use either of the Ethernet ports on the back

If your unit has an ONT (fiber modem)

  • The ONT is usually mounted on the wall or in a media panel in a closet.
  • Plug the Ethernet cable into the port on the bottom of the ONT and into your router.
  • Once connected, follow the Wi-Fi setup instructions above.

FAQ

How do I customize the Wi-Fi name and password for the ZyXEL router?
  • Look at the model number on the router’s sticker.
    • If it says EMG3425, follow this guide.
    • If it says EMG6726, instructions are found at the bottom of this guide.
My apartment has more than one Ethernet wall port. Which one should I use?
  • Start with the port in the living room.
  • Plug in the ZyXEL router and give it 3 minutes to boot.
  • Try connecting to the default Wi-Fi.
  • If it doesn’t work, try another port. It’s rarely a port outside the living room.
I have my own router. Do I have to use yours?
  • Nope! You’re welcome to use your own compatible router.
  • Just remember to reconnect the provided Ting router before you move out.
What do I do with the ZyXEL router when I move out?
  • Leave it plugged into the correct Ethernet port or modem.
  • If it’s still using the default Wi-Fi name and password, you’re all set.
  • If you customized anything, press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds to restore factory settings.
What do I do with the eero router when I move out?
  • Leave it plugged in and perform a factory reset:
    • Hold the reset button for 20 seconds until the LED flashes red.
    • Let go and wait for the LED to flash blue. Setup will then be ready for the next tenant.
What if I follow these steps but still can’t get online?
  • We’ve got your back. Contact our tech support team 24/7 by phone or live chat. You’ll find both options on our contact page.
